Diggy's Diss Should Get Sidelined

5 Reasons Why J. Cole Should Not Respond to Diggy Simmons' Diss

April 2, 2012 - 8:34 pm by VIBE

Then again, there are some reasons why Cole should sweep this diss under the rug and leave it in the past. VIBE presents five reasons why Fayetteville’s own needs to make Diggy’s record a sideline story.

While listeners are quick to say that the references on “Purple Rain” are directed at Vanessa Simmons, J. Cole never namedrops the “good girl” whose father is a preacher. Until Cole specifically addresses the suggestive remark, lights please on this back-and-forth business with Diggy.

Age is more than a number if the two rappers going head-to-head are a decade apart. While the 27-year-old Cole boasts a St. John’s University degree and has been spitting since before he was Diggy’s age, it can hardly be considered a competition if the skill set is not the same.

While Cole’s “Purple Rain” track supposedly stems back two years, a dated diss seems more irrelevant than impressive. If Diggy has been harboring his negative feelings towards the “Who Dat” rapper since he was 15, Cole is better off leaving the diss unanswered then delayed.

Diggy’s "Unexpected Arrival" debut didn’t make expected numbers either. With Cole’s Grammy-nominated calibur, dissing on an unworthy opponent may be a waste of a dollar and a dream.

Although releasing a diss on a Sunday isn’t exactly Christian-like, a Cole response may carry more weight than Diggy does. If the self-proclaimed “God’s Gift” answers, the entire Simmons clan will rush to Dig’s defense as they have already done on Twitter. It will just become one complicated, family affair.
