5 Ways NBA 2K15 Could Reach New Heights With MyPlayer

5 Ways NBA 2K15 Could Reach New Heights With MyPlayer

October 7, 2014 - 6:53 pm by Terrence Watson

Girlfriend's everywhere should be on high alert. In case you forgot, today's a national holiday for men: NBA2K Day. That's right, the basketball game with the illest detailing, gameplay and features is back staring LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and a (hopefully) healthy Kobe Bryant. One of the most beloved elements of the game is MyPlayer mode and this year, the makers of NBA 2k brought it to another level.

Not only is there a totally different story line in MyCareer mode, where your character has to earn his spot in the NBA through 10-day contracts after going undrafted, but XBox One and PS4 users can even scan their actual faces into the game. After years of creating the closest likeness you can in video games, now you can play out your dream of killing on an NBA court.

This made us wonder what other modifications 2K could do to make an already incredible idea even better? Hit the arrows above to find out.

Commit To Making MyCareer Mode A Full RPG Experience Essentially what we’re seeing in the 2K15 version of MyPlayer/MyCareer is 2K taking a closer step to the traditional RPG (or Role Playing Game). For those who don’t know, an RPG is a game that puts a character in a setting that has options and just like real life, each choice effects the outcome of the game. This year’s version is awesome, giving you less glamorous life of an un-guaranteed NBA hopeful. However, what if we take it back to the top draft pick and give users ALL that comes with it?

Real Life Decisions: They Can Change Everything OK, so you’re a top five pick in the NBA Draft? You’ve made your dreams come true but now you have to decide who to bring with you. Who’s in your entourage and what roles do they play? What events do you attend (i.e., parties, team outings, etc) and how will those decisions effect your public image? How do you react when a tweet you sent goes viral or a paparazzi picture sends the wrong message? Given the climate we’re currently in, gamers could totally understand how these things weigh in on gameplay.

Earning A Signature Shoe Endorsements are a big part of the NBA 2K experience and, like we said before, picking the right one should have an impact on gameplay. But lets say you pick the right company? Why not have the option to create a never before seen (as in one that doesn’t exist outside the game) shoe? Using a checkmark of achievements given to your MyPlayer by whichever brand you sign to, gamers should be allowed to make a custom pair for their player. How dope would it be to see your own signature shoes from your favorite line? Plus, it’d have to be an automatic ability boost. Just to make it interesting, this shouldn’t be available until maybe the second or third season, but it should be an option as long as the benchmarks are hit. But don’t get too comfortable because...

The Young Guns Are Coming As in real life, the next generation is always coming for your spot. That’s not just with NBA rosters, but with shoe companies too. If your player reaches signature shoe status, the real work begins to stay there. A good rookie class with an Andrew Wiggins type of hyped guy should be a challenge every now and then. Sneaker companies (namely the brand that reps you) should fawn over the next big thing and make your player prove himself again to remain top dog with the brand.

Superstar Story Arcs As time goes on in the NBA, superstars have to face decisions and obstacles. For LeBron, it was making the decision and then the decision 2.0. For Kobe Bryant, it’s proving that he can still school the youngins’ who used to have his posters on their walls after suffering an injury. Your MyPlayer may not face the exact same things, but throwing in different plots like choosing to form a super-team or overcoming a season ending injury at different points in their careers would make the game ultra realistic. How do you respond to hardships? To fans suddenly hating you? To “friends” disappearing and doubting you? Playing out these real life scenarios (that we’re familiar with) and maybe even a few made up strictly for the game would add another spin.
