7 Reasons We're Excited About The G-Unit Reunion

June 4, 2014 - 7:58 pm by Chris Yuscavage

Guess who's back?! More than five years after releasing their last collaborative album, T.O.S.: Terminate on Sight—and just months after going through a very public falling out that ended with 50 Cent distancing himself from his former friends—G-Unit (minus Game) reunited during Hot 97's Summer Jam concert on Sunday night. They also released a brand-new song called "Nah I'm Talkin' 'Bout" and dropped a freestyle over Drake's "0 to 100." And just like that, the Guerrilla Unit is officially back on the scene.

We couldn't be happier about this development. In fact, we'd love to say that we've been bumping 50 Cent's new album, Animal Ambition, all week long, but the truth is that we've been so happy about the return of the G-Unit that the only thing we can think about right now is the new G-Unit album that 50 has already promised the world. Here are 7 reasons we're excited to see Fif, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Buck reunited.

Reason #1: It was really sad to see G-Unit break up in the first place. G-Unit wasn't a group that was haphazardly thrown together after 50 Cent became super successful back in 2003. 50 and Tony Yayo grew up together. Yayo connected 50 with Lloyd Banks. And Young Buck was added to group when his rap career was still in its infancy. So it was sad to see all four of the group's core members grow apart—and even sadder to see 50 and Yayo trading shots through the media earlier this year. We're glad they've put their differences to the side, though, and gotten back on good terms. It's the best thing for all parties involved. Photo Credit: Freshness Mag

Reason #2: G-Unit's last album was solid and proved that they could still make quality music together. T.O.S.: Terminate on Sight wasn't as strong as G-Unit's debut Beg for Mercy was. But it was a good album and, all things considered, was one of the better rap group albums we've heard in the last decade. So it's not like there wasn't a healthy demand for G-Unit in recent years. People still want to hear their music. And now that they're back together, they'll get to hear it again. Photo Credit: Getty Images

Reason #3: The G-Unit reunion should make all of the individual members of the group relevant again. In recent years, all four members of G-Unit have continued to put out solo projects. But with all due respect to Banks, Yayo, and Buck, 50's mixtapes and albums have been the only ones that have really made any noise. But now that the group is back together, it'll give all four members' solo careers a boost. And we expect all four of them, especially Banks, Yayo, and Buck, to start saturating the streets with new projects, like, immediately. Photo Credit: Getty Images

Reason #4: G-Unit getting back together gives New York rap fans something to celebrate. There are several NYC-based rappers who are doing their thing right now. But none of them have the same sound as 50 Cent & Co. Plus, with G-Unit back on the scene, there are now three artists from New York City who are automatically relevant again. It'll give the NYC rap scene a big boost this summer and put some eyes back on the Big Apple. Photo Credit: Miss Info

Reason #5: Now that the group is back together again, a G-Unit tour has to be on the way…right? Forget the fact that G-Unit hasn't really recorded any new material in the last five-plus years. They have so many songs together that people still want to hear that it would make perfect sense for them to hit the road at some point in the near future. Reason #6: We're already loving what we're hearing out of the G-Unit camp. Since reuniting on Sunday night, G-Unit has already released a new song and a new freestyle. And we've had both of them in heavy rotation ever since they were released. G-Unit sounds hungry, determined, and ready to leave their mark on the game again. If what they've already put out is a sign of things to come, we can't wait to see what else they have in store for us. Photo Credit: Billboard

Reason #7: G-Unit couldn't have picked a better time to make their return. Is there anything better than jumping in the car, turning up some G-Unit, and riding out in the summertime? NO. And thanks to the G-Unit reunion, we'll finally have some new G-Unit to ride out to this summer. Could life be any better for rap fans right now? Photo Credit: 4umf
