Afeni Shakur's place in hip-hop history is just one of the things that she achieved during her 69 years on earth. The hip-hop community knows her for raising one of the most influential rappers of all time aka Tupac. That's only a part of his story, though.

However, her contributions in the fight for civil rights and the upliftment of African-American culture should also be noted. Afeni was there fighting with the Black Panthers when they rose to power in the 60s -- and continued to push for positive change in the Black community until the time of her untimely death.
