'Basketball Wives' Recap: Suzie Gets A Backbone, Tasha Makes Frenemies

1. Tami Taught Me Fresh off her argument with Tasha, Suzie visits Tami who's getting her Indian Remy snatched and styled to converse about the confrontation. Like Tami, I agree that Suzie is the victim in this instance. Tasha had no reason to single her out the way she did, purposely trying to embarrass her. Much like the previous added cast members who were way too eager in their attempts to make a lasting impression before her, Tasha is doing the most and it’s making me less and less interested in her. When will reality newbies learn that the harder you try, the less likable you become? As the two continue talking, Suzie notes how Tasha used the term “angry birds” to describe the other ladies. If you recall, that was the same phrase used to describe Suzie, Evelyn and Shaunie “on the blogs.” Suzie suspects that Tasha is behind that story leaking to these mysterious blogs I can’t find via the Google. Whatever, y’all. Do what you have to do to get this plot going. Suzie later calls Evelyn to talk about the fight and co-signs Tami’s opinion that Tasha owes Suzie an apology and not the other way around. You get the sense that everyone’s turning against Tasha. We’ve been here before. Word to Meeka Claxton.

3. Tami’s Business Is Booming When Tami isn’t cursing people out, swinging at people or daring them to swing at her, you remember how charming she can be and how much you want to root for her. When she first joined the show, she was down on her luck, admittedly struggling financially and trying to find her way as her ex-husband refused to own up to financial responsibilities in providing for their children. Now she looks like new money with the better grade of hair extensions to show for it. With that in mind, I couldn’t help but be happy to see how well the “fan appreciation” back door launch party for her new nail polish line. Celebrities like Niecy Nash, Elise Neal and Stevie J joined Tami as she unveiled her new beauty product. Once Suzie and Evelyn arrived, Suzie says to Tami, “Now this is a real event.” Catch that shade, Tasha. You earned it. A very happy Tami talks about the “sisterhood” they all share (minus Tasha, naturally) and it's sweet to see everyone appear genuinely touched. It’s too bad we now hear that Evelyn and Tami don’t speak at all. Oh well, at least we had that moment. Although Tami is soaring professionally, personally she’s still dealing with the declining health of her mother. She acknowledges that she’s put up a wall and that it's not the best way to handle the loss of a parent. I can’t question her choices as I’ve yet to be put into that position. I will reiterate, though, that she’s a champ for sharing this struggle with the world.

4. Kenya Bell’s Back Banished former Basketball Wife Kenya Bell has found her way back onto the show. She has a record deal now and reached out to Tami, inviting her and the other cast members to watch her perform her new single, “Hate On Me.” The track is about “women who hate on other women” and while Kenya initially makes it seem like the song wasn’t about her former co-workers, by the end of the conversation she says that the song does single out one Basketball Wife. Oh boy. I wish you could hear my loud sigh, y’all. Why couldn’t producers bring back Jennifer Williams or Royce Reed? That would make for way better television.
