The West Wing: 8 Things You Can Expect From Kanye's 2020 Presidential Campaign

September 1, 2015 - 12:43 pm by Mark Braboy

Here are eight signs to check for should Kanye West & Co. occupy the White House in 2020.

These days, everybody and their momma (or poppa) is seemingly throwing their hats into the presidential arena. Especially folks who've never even held a political position before. Take Waka Flocka Flame (who attempted it... sorta), Donald Trump (who is actually doing it) and even a 15-year-old Iowa boy who was able to get the name “Deez Nuts” on the ballot.

Now, Kanye West wants in on the political action. At the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night during his Video Vanguard speech (Aug. 30), he boldly announced, “I have decided in 2020 to run for president."

While the could-be campaign is still five years away, the idea of Kanye running for Prez sounds too good to be real. That didn't stop us, though, from outlining Mr. West's presidential plan above.—Mark Braboy (@DRD_Poetry17)

The Political Agenda

For some time now, 'Ye has been barking into mics during interviews and speeches that zoom into themes of corporate slavery and uplifting the youth. In spite of the outlandish things he’s said prior to the VMAs, he’s always been socially conscious, outspoken about the ills of society, and has been active in making a change in Chicago, like the creation of Donda’s House and his initiative with Common to create thousands of jobs for the Windy City’s youth.

The Party

Despite the 24-year-old Republican starting a PAC for Kanye, West might find his political home on Democrat turf. If you look to his parents, West comes from a family who values art, creativity, and education. Also, despite their shaky history, Obama seems like the type to lend guidance to his fellow Chicago brethren.

The Campaign Trail

Kanye West's legion of Yeezus Stans will make it their 9-to-5 to promote his campaign. He could set up home base in his native Chicago, especially with his nonprofit, Donda’s House. As seen during the “Yeezus” press run, Kanye's guerrilla marketing style is sure to have his loyalists knock on every door, and spread the word to elect President West.

The G.O.O.D. Cabinet

Kanye’s cabinet would probably include his closest comrades fom his G.O.O.D Music roster to a few members of the Kardashian/Jenner clan and even some of his Chi-Town day-ones. Imagine his Donda House partner, Rhymefest, as the Secretary of Education, Common as the Secretary of Labor, John Legend as VP, Big Sean as Secretary of Treasury, and Kris Jenner as Communications Director. Regardless of his picks, he’s sure to make history with this lineup.

Expect more good music if Kanye campaigns to be the leader of the Free World. Whether it’s some joints he kept in the vault, or rally cry tracks featuring Big Sean, Common, John Legend, Pusha T or Travi$ Scott, chances are there will be White House-sized bangers on the way.

The Great Debates

As seen in many of his interviews, Kanye's always game for a debate. If anything, he’d be first in line for a political showdown on everything from education to marijuana. But what we wouldn’t give to have him go off on an epic rant, destroying the opposition with lines like, “You ain’t got the answers, bro!"

The Kardashian-Jenners would occupy the White House. Envision that for a sec. Not only would this mean Kim K redefining First Lady fashion (Michelle Obama bares arms, Kim K bares everything else?) but the clan funding the most lavish benefits for the cause. Thought the First Family of Reality TV was inescapable now? Watch what happens when Kanye invades the Oval Office.

The Unfiltered Speeches

When Kanye talks, the world listens. If Yeezy attempts to run for President, prepare for some of the wildest, no-holds-barred speeches to make history textbooks. His monologues would also become viral by the first syllable. Regardless of his bizarre podium tactics, West always carries a message. Hopefully, one that doesn't require lighting up beforehand.
