7 Scenarios To Prepare For If 'Lemonade' Doesn’t Win Album Of The Year

February 10, 2017 - 2:20 pm by VIBE

Don't say we didn't warn you.

Critics and fans alike have been predicting the potential winners of the 59th annual Grammy Awards this Sunday (Feb. 12). While many are expecting the night’s biggest nominee Beyoncé to win Album Of The Year for her magnum opus, Lemonade, we at VIBE got to thinking—What if Lemonade doesn’t win Album Of The Year?

While she’s got a great shot at her first AOTY win, the Grammys are extremely unpredictable. Here are some of our wildest predictions of what might happen should Queen Bey lose the night’s most coveted honor.

1. The Beyhive Boycott

If we know anything about the Beyhive, it’s that they ride for their Queen, and anyone who stands in her way of her obvious greatness will ultimately be the loser in the end. We’re imagining if Lemonade doesn’t take home Grammy night’s biggest honor, there’s the possibility of the Beyhive boycotting the actual winner’s music. They may buy copies of the winner’s album only to smash them (several did this to Kid Rock’s First Kiss album in 2015, after he spoke negatively about the superstar). Whatever they end up doing if she loses, we know it won’t be surprising.

2. Petition To The Recording Academy To Change Their Votes

People make petitions for anything and everything nowadays, so why wouldn’t someone hop on Change.org to urge the the Recording Academy (the musicians, producers and recording professionals who select Grammy winners) to rectify the loss of Sasha Fierce in the Album Of The Year category? Never say never, folks, never say never.

3. Kanye West Storms The Stage

Although he announced during a stop on his Saint Pablo tour in October that he would not be attending this year’s ceremony, we all know that Kanye West rides or dies for his collaborator Bey. As evidenced by his infamous 2009 MTV VMAs stage crash to defend Beyoncé against big bad Taylor Swift, and then his joke/not really a joke stage crash after Beck’s Morning Phase beat her self-titled album at the 2015 Grammys, this possibility shouldn’t be completely ruled out.

Guys—we’re just joking. We’re certain Sol-Angel would congratulate Adele on her honor… honestly, truly.

5. Fans Bombard The Winner’s Instagram Page

This is inevitable. Beyhive members are known to swarm even the most innocent of celebrities and their Instagram pages with bee and lemon emojis (Rachael Ray, anyone?). The winner’s social media team better turn off their Instagram comments as soon as they finish their acceptance speech, because it will get ugly.

6. The Minute Hand On The Doomsday Clock Moves Closer To Midnight

The Doomsday Clock, the scientific timepiece that symbolizes the end-of-the-world as we know, has been closer to midnight this year than it has been since 1984. If Lemonade doesn’t pull out a W, we imagine that minute hand is going RIGHT on the 12. Nice knowing you all, we’ll be in the bunker trying to protect ourselves from the Apocalypse.

7. Donald Trump Tweets His Signature Nonsense

Picture it: 6:15 a.m., President Trump goes on a tweet storm about how the ceremony was “total nonsense” when he should be getting ready for a security briefing. To round up his thoughts, he sends out his most controversial tweet—that Beyoncé’s Lemonade was “overrated” anyway and he’s glad that it lost. Hope he’s ready for lemons and bees galore!
