LIL WAYNE'S 10 CRAZIEST SKATEBOARDING MOMENTS

Let's Skate! Lil Wayne's 10 Craziest Skateboarding Moments

March 22, 2012 - 6:01 pm by Chris Yuscavage TWITTER

Okay, Lil Wayne. You win! When you first started skateboarding regularly about a year or so ago, we thought it was just a phase—kinda like that time you had us all convinced that you were gonna practice the guitar 24/7 and somehow transform yourself into the next Jimi Hendrix. But, now that you're scheduled to appear on the May 2012 cover of the well-respected skating mag CCS in a few weeks, we'll admit that we believe you when you say you're serious about this skateboarding stuff. If skating is truly what makes you happy, then who are we to say that you shouldn't do it?

In reality, we probably should've believed you months ago. After all, you've had some been crazy moments on your skateboard since you first started. And you've made plenty of headlines for your skating escapades. So many, in fact, that we decided to honor the announcement that you'll be on the cover of CCS by putting together a list of your 10 craziest skateboarding moments. After looking at these, there's absolutely no doubt in our minds that you're not leaving the skate park anytime soon. Just promise us that means you won't stop rapping, okay?—Chris Yuscavage

LIL WAYNE SKATE 1

The Date: August 21, 2011 The Moment: In the middle of the night, Wayne went skating at Transitions Skate Park in Tampa with skater Jordan Garland. Why It Was So Crazy: Wayne sounded super amped up to be skating, especially when you consider that it was "13 in the morning" (his words, not ours) when he got finished with the skate session. This was around the time that we all started to think this skating thing was for real for Wayne.

The Date: August 22, 2011 The Moment: While skating at a skate park in St. Louis, Wayne fell off his board, hit his head, and had to be rushed to the hospital where he needed nine stitches for what he called "a gnarly gash." Why It Was So Crazy: If we had to guess, we would have picked this as the moment that Wayne would have stopped skating. Getting little bumps and bruises is one thing. But, a gash that requires stitches? No way. To his credit, though, he stuck with it after this and didn't seem to skip a beat as he continued skating in the days after the accident.

The Date: September 6, 2011 The Moment: Wayne made a stop at Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory and allowed Dyrdek to pull him on a go-kart while he was standing on a skateboard in order to launch him into a foam pit. Why It Was So Crazy: This particular moment didn't really have anything to do with Wayne's skating skills. But it was still crazy nonetheless. If he hadn't made it into the foam pit, there's a good chance he could've gotten really hurt. After the trip, Dyrdek's associate Drama also pointed out that Wayne had gotten "noticeably better" at skating since the last time he'd made a trip to FF.

The Date: November 16, 2011 The Moment: A video surfaced of Wayne practicing several tricks—on a ramp that he had built on the roof of his Miami mansion. Why It Was So Crazy: On the roof, son? First of all, it's crazy that you have a ramp on your roof. And, secondly, we're sure you're in no actual danger, but practicing on the roof just sounds like a dangerous place to skate. This is crazy on all accounts.

The Date: December 2011 The Moment: During a tour in Australia, Wayne had a ramp set up on stage and routinely skateboarded right during the middle of his shows. Why It Was So Crazy: Wayne really put himself out there. If he fell and busted his ass on stage, you know that video would go viral in, like, 5 minutes. So he took a risk every time he brought a board with him on stage.

The Date: January 28, 2012 The Moment: While skateboarding near his home in Miami, Wayne took a spill after trying to do an ollie and sprained his left shoulder. As a result, doctors asked him to stay off his skateboard for a week. Why It Was So Crazy: Wayne's really not afraid to put his body at risk in order to learn some tricks, eh? It was also crazy to see him stuck in a sling because of his injury.

The Date: February 1, 2012 The Moment: Lil Wayne stopped by a recording session for Justin Bieber's Believe in Miami and ended up taking some time out of the session to skateboard with Biebs on a ramp that he has right outside the studio. And, remember: This was just a few days after he injured his shoulder skating. Why It Was So Crazy: In theory, Lil Wayne catching a feature on Bieber's Believe album is a great look for him. And, yet, we can't help but think that part of the reason Weezy stopped by in the first place was to try out the ramp. SMH. You ain't slick, son!

The Date: February 12, 2012 The Moment: Before taking the stage at the Grammy Awards, Wayne pulled out his skateboard and pulled off a few tricks to get himself warmed up. Why It Was So Crazy: Yo, skating at the Grammys, Wayne? CRAY.

LIL WAYNE SKATE 9

The Date: March 9, 2012 The Moment: CCS magazine announced that they will be featuring Wayne on the cover on their May 2012 issue. Why It Was So Crazy: During the cover shoot, Wayne kicked it with skateboarding stars like Paul Rodriguez, Shane O'Neill, and Torey Pudwill. It's probably not a shock to hear that those guys have embraced Wayne. But, still: Wayne on the cover of...a skateboarding magazine? Pretty nuts.

LIL WAYNE SKATE 10

The Date: March 15, 2012 The Moment: When Wayne ran on stage at his SXSW "DEWeezy" show last week, he brought a skateboard along with him. Throughout the show, he also kicked life lessons like, "Life is a lot like skateboarding. The first few times you try kick-flipping, you'll fall. But you'll always get back up." Why It Was So Crazy: Wayne is really serious about this skateboarding stuff, huh? Like, he can't even do rap shows anymore without talking about it? D'ah well. At least he's sticking with it. We're just interested to see how far he runs—or, better yet, skates—with it.
