Marvel Pays Homage To Hip Hop With New Comic Book
The comic book company is releasing a book full of hip-hop inspired covers in January.
OkayCovers revealed Tuesday (Dec. 1) that Marvel Comics will release a 32-page book of hip hop inspired comic book covers.
The comic book company hasn't released too many details on the latest line of work in this exciting project, but the variant covers are meant to "pay tribute to iconic albums beloved by comics fans and creators." Marvel artist and Editor-in-Chief, Axel Alonso, released several superhero spins of rap albums over the last few months, such as Clipse's Lord Willin and Iggy Azalea's The New Classic, and fans of his work will be able to see more when the book drops in participating stores on Jan. 6.
"The hip hop variants were a really special initiative that caught fire in the outside world,” Alonso told The New York Times. "We thought this was a great opportunity to highlight that and make it available to fans for free.”
The new collection includes variants of Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and Biggie Small's Ready To Die just to name a few. Can you name all of the albums? Test your knowledge with a few of our favorite variants above.
