Photos: Winners From the 54th Annual Grammy Awards

February 13, 2012 - 10:16 pm by VIBE Staff

The 54th annual Grammy Awards proved to be a big night for British songstress Adele who took home six Grammy awards—winning in every category she was nominated in.

As an obvious frontrunner from the beginning all eyes were on the British sensation as she performed for the first time following a risky throat surgery. However, her obvious fears did not take away her singing chops. She sung her Grammy-winning single “Rolling in the Deep” to a standing ovation from the crowd.

Bruno Mars set the tone for Grammy performances as one of the opening acts by paying homage to the late ‘Godfather of Soul’ James Brown through some of the dance moves he made popular. Katy Perry debuted a new look with her blue hair along with a new song “Part of Me,” which sounded like it could have been a jab at soon to be ex-husband Russell Brand. ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ Rihanna performed her chart-topping single “We Found Love” and showed off a little of her own dance moves. After, the pop princess she took the stage with British band Coldplay to perform their highly anticipated single “Princess of China.”

R&B singer Chris Brown made a Grammys comeback performing twice after three years away from the show and taking home a trophy for Best R&B Album. The unforgettable performance that many Americans were waiting for—a tribute to Whitney Houston was sung by fan favorite and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson. The singer put on a rendition Houston’s popular hit “I Will Always Love You” from her movie The Bodyguard.

Last night’s other Grammy performances were full of debuts, including rapper Nicki Minaj’s “Roman Holiday," which certainly had the web and social media buzzing with its puzzling elements of exorcism.

Other notable wins last night included: Bon Iver for Best New Artist, Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy for Best Rap Album and Adele’s 21 for Album of the Year. --Johnathan Cruse
