President Barack Obama Welcomed With Open Arms In Cuba

March 21, 2016 - 2:55 pm by Tony M. Centeno TWITTER

The Obamas make history during their trip to Cuba.

Despite previous criticism, the First Family flew into Jose Marti International Airport Sunday (Mar. 20) with intentions to further build on diplomatic relations with the Communist nation. Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to set foot on the island since 1928.

¿Que bolá Cuba? Just touched down here, looking forward to meeting and hearing directly from the Cuban people.

— President Obama (@POTUS) March 20, 2016

On day one of their trip, Obama laid a wreath by the Jose Martí memorial in Revolution Square. Later he joined with Michelle and their daughters Sasha and Malia for a tour of the grand cobblestoned plazas of Old Havana and Catedral de San Cristóbal de la Habana. On his second day, the POTUS had an imperative meeting with President Raúl Castro and Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Obama met with Castro to discuss his stance on the Cuban government and desire to see changes in Cuba's single-party system and harsh limits on media, assembly and political dissent.
