Case Of The Mondays: Ranking Justin Bieber’s 10 #MusicMondays Songs

December 9, 2013 - 4:48 pm by Kathy Iandoli

Over the last ten weeks, Justin Bieber has consistently delivered his own hashtagged tracks for fans to snack on. Much like Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Friday (and every rapper who bit off him thereafter), The Biebs is providing a service to his Beliebers. He’s bringing a steady flow of new tunes, changing it up (sort of) with every new release. As Justin announces that he'll be compiling his Music Mondays into an official release (Journals), VIBE has decided to divide and conquer these trending topic tracks in order from best to worst. So without further ado, here are Justin Bieber’s ten #MusicMondays tracks in order from aww, sucky to aww, sookie! —Kathy Iandoli

Justin Bieber's "Heartbreaker"
2
11

“Heartbreaker” Yawn. Justin’s heart is breaking. What else is new? While he sounds decent enough, the beat keeps running in the opposite direction. See? Even the beat doesn’t want to commit to Justin Bieber. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
Justin Bieber's "Roller Coaster"
3
11

“Roller Coaster” What in the Funkadelic is going on here? Biebs sounds like he stuck a stick of dynamite in the atomic dog and it exploded all over the beat. Then he keeps mumbling and all you can hear is “Roller Coaster.” These are all compliments, by the way. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
Justin Bieber "Hold Tight"

11

“Hold Tight” Justin Bieber has obviously been watching Titanic because the message in this track is “never let go.” With some simple blips in the form of a beat, we really get to hear JB’s vocal range on this one. Who knew puberty could bring him to new heights with his voice? [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
Justin Bieber "Change Me"
5
11

“Change Me” Breathy vocals and a tickling of the ivories. That’s basically what this song embodies, and it’s probably just enough to bring most of the Beliebers to try outs for MTV’s 16 & Pregnant, because this is clearly baby-making music. Even if you’re still a baby. Whoops. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
Justin Bieber "All That Matters"
6
11

“All That Matters” Here’s a song where the opening guitar licks would suggest the song is about to be sung by some legendary soul artist. Then you hear Bieber and it’s like “Whoa, wait what?” He harmonizes quite pleasantly, as he woos the object of his affection…whoever she is. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
Justin Bieber "All Bad"
7
11

“All Bad” Too much “bad” in the titles, but this one is a beauty. He’s basically convincing his love that he’s not “all bad” and ends up sounding like The Weeknd in the process. He should’ve added a few drug references to really drive the point home. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
Justin Bieber "Bad Day"
8
11

“Bad Day” Sure, the emo-ness is a bit much, but the slightly upbeat production mixed with Justin hitting the ill soprano gives “Bad Day” a really good spin. It’s beginning to become evident that Justin Bieber succeeds at life when he’s really sad. Like Mary J. Blige. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
Justin Bieber "Recovery"
9
11

“Recovery” Finger snaps and gentle strings lull Justin right into this successful recovery. Channeling ‘90s R&B crooners, Biebs wins with sounding like guys who are old enough to be his father at this point. Is it sweet? Definitely. His best. No, not really. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
Justin Bieber "PYD"
10
11

“PYD” Ladies, “PYD” makes you thankful Justin is legal right? It’s okay to admit it. That’s fine. As he moans over a haunting beat about moving you through the entire house and PYDing you or “putting you down,” you get the feeling that Biebs might have some experience at this whole process. Just saying. Oh yeah, R. Kelly is on the track too.
Justin Bieber "Confident"
11
11

“Confident” Is there anything more random than Justin Bieber collaborating with Chance the Rapper? The answer is no. Somehow though, it works. Maybe it’s the bouncy beat that mixes with Biebs’ hums or it’s Chance’s upbeat bars. Either way, this one wins big. It’s good to know that Bieber opted to not be so emo on his final #MusicMondays installment. This one screams confidence…as it should. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
