The Real Has Arrived: Rapsody Delivers Poised Truth While Resting Easy On Her 'Crown'
The rapper speaks to VIBE about her latest EP, bonding with President Barack Obama over hip-hop and more.
North Carolina’s own Rapsody has delivered an outstanding EP Crown this month (Nov. 16), spitting socially conscious rhymes and giving us a well-needed sonic distraction from 2016.
Crown provides positivity as well as some features from Ab-Soul, Anderson .Paak, Moonchild and Raphael Saadiq. The compilation set us up for an upcoming album on the way sometime next year. As if her new tape wasn’t enough, she recently joined a few folks over at the Sennheiser shop in SoHo to give them an intimate performance of a few of her tracks along with her mentor 9th Wonder. “Don’t call me a femcee, or a female rapper. Call me a beast,” Rapsody said. Her presence is demanding, but her lyrics on self-worth and the wonders of the world attract those who love the real. After the words leave her voicebox, lyrics from her Crown project soon follow, with the room in sheer happiness.
We caught up with the Roc Nation artist before her performance to chat about her project, collaborations and experiences as an artist in this era.
Check out the interview in the gallery above and listen to Crown here.
