Recap: Nokia Lumia 920 Review At Brooklyn Nets Vs. Boston Celtics Game

November 16, 2012 - 8:42 pm by VIBE Pop Culture

Yesterday evening, VIBE was privy to participate in a unique experience. We were able to get hands-on time with the new Nokia Lumia 920, which would make any techie or gadget geek have a joy boner. But add to the mix that we used it during last night's exciting game between the Brooklyn Nets (5-2) and the Boston Celtics (5-4), and watch your jubilee turn into a straight nerdgasm.

For your viewing pleasure, above, are just a few of the shots we took during the course of the game. If you see anybody you know, don't hesitate to shout them out in the comments section below. Also, don't forget to follow us on Twitter (@VIBEMagazine).

"Welcome To The New Brooklyn" —

The Nokia Lumia 920 places its bets as the "iWhatever Killer" by its fluid functionality, sleek interface and big presentation. Much like when the Barclays Center was displayed to the community, the "smarter" smartphone is able to put on an amazing display through the usage of an excellent camera.

"This Is Our House!" —

Nokia develops its new Windows Phone handset much like the developers did with the Barclays Center: with kindness and a steadfast hand. Utilizing a 4.5-inch IPS display, the device will make a few knowledgeable change their mind about buying the iPhone 5. Now, if only they could make an app to get rid of glare...

"A Phone For Those Who Are All Thumbs" —

The affluent display is further emboldened by ClearBlack technology, which gives the phone's desktop a very sharp color and contrast. The PureMotion HD+ may not have given our photo subject "better than HD" clarity, but 3-D is much better when the Brooklyn Nets are trouncing the Boston Celtics.

"A Win For One, A Win For All!" —

The 1280x768 pixel PureMotion HD+ display is big enough that people five rows behind us could see what we were trying to shoot. The camera proves to be a winner with new tech, as the Lumia 920's camera is powered by a 41-megapixel monster. Strong enough to snap a shot from floor-side, but smooth enough to get those choice shots that make you a must-see on #IG.

"Where's Brooklyn At?!" —

Throughout the night, there was an abundance of Boston Celtics fans in the mostly-packed Barclays crowd. While their team of choice didn't leave the county of Kings with a 'W,' they managed to be treated to the best stadium service in the league (no matter how much Paul Pierce stinks up the place!).

"Size Does Matter!" —

The Nokia Lumia 920 does have its shortcomings. The camera button on the bottom of the phone sometimes lags when taking photos. Also, when you use the touchscreen to snap your shots, there is a brief delay in communicating the prompt that can be quite a bit frustrating. So, to take our minds off of it, please enjoy this photo of Kevin Frazier and the Brooklyn Nets dancers.

"When The Moment Hits Your Eye..." —

Weighing in at 10.7mm and 185 grams, the Nokia Lumia 920 is a bit of a bodybuilder in the world of smartphones. The device is very angular and it features a bold rectangular form factor with sharp corners and softened edges. Coming in a variety of breathtaking colors, the 920 has a sturdy polycarbonate unibody, which is essential for those who are prone to drop your phone on hard surfaces.

"A Legend In The Making?" —

The name Nokia hasn't been on anyone's wish list in years, but much like the Nets transition to Brooklyn, the 920 is receiving a strong reception. Currently, the number one bestselling device for AT&T, the Nokia Lumia 920 could very well be on its way to returning on top of its cellular conference.

"Too Early To Call The Game?" —

Yes, it is too soon to begin labeling the Nokia Lumia 920 (with Windows Phone 8) a "success" by any means. But Microsoft could have finally tapped into a market that is able to push them past their third place ranking in the mobile market. With the early availability of SmartGlass, interested techies can connect their mobile device to their Xbox 360 and other Microsoft products creating a seamless transition into the 3.0 digital age.

"A Swish For The Dollar" —

The AT&T exclusive (at least that's what GeoHotz hopes for) is expected to be priced at $149.99 with a new two year contract, of course. Many of them have already sold out due to a retailer pricing it at a lower mark, but our final verdict is that the Nokia Lumia 920 is for anyone looking to increase their connectivity and their camera's clarity.
