Reeeemix! The 10 Best Hip-Hop Remixes of 2011

December 16, 2011 - 3:03 pm by Chris Yuscavage TWITTER

10.

The Original Song: YC's "Racks"

The Remix: YC's "Racks (Remix)," featuring CyHi Da Prynce, Young Jeezy, Bun B, Twista, Ace Hood, Dose, B.o.B, Big Sean, Cory Mo, Cory Gunz, Nelly, Trae Tha Truth, Waka Flocka Flame, Wale, Wiz Khalifa, and Yo Gotti

Why It Worked: We won't lie. We haven't touched this guilty pleasure since the day it dropped (in fact, we filed it right next to Game's "One Blood (Remix)" under the name "DO NOT OPEN EVER AGAIN!") but we thought it was pretty crazy that all these artists agreed to get on this 12-plus minute remix. And it was worth at least one novelty listen when it first dropped.

The Original Song: Ke$ha's "Sleazy"

The Remix: Ke$ha's "Sleazy 2.0," featuring Wiz Khalifa, Andre 3000, T.I., and Lil Wayne

Why It Worked: This was actually the remix to a remix. Almost a full year after Ke$ha dropped the original do-over with just Andre, she tabbed the other three MCs and put it out again. How'd she get 'em to agree to do it? Water bottles full of vodka, of course! Er, okay, we made that up, but however she managed to swing this, we're sure glad she did.

The Original Song: French Montana's "Choppa Choppa Down"

The Remix: French Montana's "Choppa Choppa Down (Remix)," featuring Rick Ross and Wiz Khalifa

Why It Worked: "Choppa choppa dooooooooooooown!" If you ask us, this remix didn't get nearly enough love this year. We can sort of understand why—the hook isn't exactly radio-friendly—but this song, as the kids say these days, slaps.

The Original Song: Wale's "Bait"

The Remix: Wale's "Bait (Remix)," featuring 2 Chainz, Trey Songz, and Rick Ross

Why It Worked: We had to include something "featuring 2 Chainz" on this list, right? (for the record, the "Spend It" remix was also in contention but just missed the cut) So, we decided to go with this uptempo remix from one of the best tracks on Wale's Ambition. Why? Well, because 2 Chainz said he shops at Saks 5th like it's a Target! Enough said.

The Original Song: Britney Spears' "Till The World Ends"

The Remix: Britney Spears' "Till The World Ends (The Femme Fatale Remix)," featuring Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha

Why It Worked: Girl power! With Britney riding high off the success of the original and Nicki and Ke$ha's careers both peaking at practically the same moment, this was a no-brainer. We bet your chick and all her girlfriends loved it. And you probably didn't mind it, either.

The Original Song: Kanye West's "All Of The Lights"

The Remix: Kanye West's "All Of The Lights (Remix)," featuring Lil Wayne, Drake, and Big Sean

Why It Worked: Wayne Autotuned his verse and Big Sean sounded like he phoned his in. But Drizzy? Well, he got pretty aggressive on this one and saved the day. For his verse alone, this remix deserves a slot on this list. We just wish 'Ye would've pushed the other two to do more with theirs.

The Original Song: French Montana's "Shot Caller"

The Remix: French Montana's "Shot Caller (Remix)," featuring Rick Ross and Diddy

Why It Worked: Hold up: Did Puff just let Ross rap over B.I.G.'s "All About The Benjamins" beat? Blasphemy! Er, or shock value? Whatever. We're just glad Diddy hopped on here and gave Hot 97 a reason to give it a few extra spins. You finally made it, French! Good idea pairing up with a real shot caller on this one.

The Original Song: Uncle Murda's "Warning"

The Remix: Uncle Murda's "Warning (Remix)," featuring French Montana, Jadakiss, Styles P, Jim Jones, Vado, and Cam'Ron (TIE: Uncle Murda's "Warning (Remix)," featuring Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, and Young Jeezy)

Why It Worked: We couldn't get enough of this beat. Seriously. So by making a remix, Murda just gave us a longer version of his original song to play. Which allowed us to listen to more of the beat. Warning: You won't want to see what No. 2 or No. 1 are if you press play on this clip. Just don't say we didn't warn you.

The Original Song: Big Sean's "A$$ (Dance)"

The Remix: Big Sean's "A$$ (Dance) (Remix)," featuring Nicki Minaj

Why It Worked: Did you see the video for this? No? Why the hell not? Go watch it and you'll understand exactly why this was one of our favorite remixes of the year. Hell, we'll go as far as saying it's one of our favorite remixes of all-time! Watch the video and we DARE you to say otherwise.

The Original Song: Meek Mill's "I'ma Boss," featuring Rick Ross

The Remix: Meek Mill's "I'ma Boss (Remix)," featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, T.I., Birdman, and Swizz Beatz

Why It Worked: We waited almost all year for this to drop. And when it did? Well, it was exactly what we were expecting. But, we'll be honest: Meek could've thrown anyone on here and this would've sounded good. Boss!
