Mike Will Made-It & Charlamagne Tha God Kick Off Remy Martin's "The Producers Series"
The beats were way up at the first semi-annual producer competition in New York
Remy Martin presented the first semi-annual "Producer Series" with hosts, Power 105.1 radio personality and Remy Martin brand ambassador, Charlamagne the God, alongside famed producer mogul Mike Will Made-It on Saturday (July 11).
Upcoming beat smiths competed on the 1's and 2's at New York's Empire Hotel in front of dozens of crowdgoers, industry professionals and a panel of four judges.
Leading up to the showdown, Mike Will took the stage with Charlamagne to discuss his come-up and the music biz. Mr. Made-It also introduced two new faces, Eearz and Yung Joey.
During his interview with Charlamagne, Mike Will told the crowd that it takes vision for a producer to succeed. "You need to be working with the people who are willing to listen and work with you," the Atlanta producer said. "You can put me on with Rihanna or Disney, I'll make a hit."
C Tha God said he saluted producers because of their unique and interesting backgrounds. “Even if you’re a producer, you have a story,” he told VIBE. “Mike Will, for example, can sit back and tell you how he’s been recording since he was 13 and the process of coming up musically.”
The battle commenced with five semi-finalists (Rozay, Rell Lxc, Swing America, Mystere Jones & Noe Doe Network and Steezbeatz) presenting their music to the judges. Industry vets on the panel included Hip Hop Wired's deputy editor, Alvin Blanco; Sony’s marketing manager, Rebekah Espinosa and RCA Records’ Vice President of Promotion, Baby Sam. Swing America brought the title home, receiving praise for his unique tonality.
Mike Will Made-It emphasized the importance of “The Producers Series” for ambitious hitmakers because of the exposure. ”The good thing about it is I’m not able to listen to all of the beats that I get sent, so I’m in the building right now, and I can see whose next,” he told VIBE. “We are all about raw talent and creating global superstars.”
