Salma Hayek Is A Global Champion On 'Latina'
The mighty Mexicana takes on injustices happening around the world.
Salma Hayek has gone from A-list actress to global humanitarian. After playing the iconic Frida, a headstrong Hayek turned to tackling the ills of the world. That means any and everything from educating sex workers in Nicaragua to vaccinating at risk populations in India to breastfeeding a Sierra Leone baby in dire need of nourishment, the latter having caused outrage across the world and influx of hate mail.
“It quite shocked me," recalled the 47-year-old in her cover story for Latina. "It was the only time in my life that I got hate letters.”
The telling interview went on to talk about a poignant racist encounter, her marriage to billionaire businessman Franc?ois-Henri Pinault, production work in Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet and Septembers of Shiraz, and support for Hillary Clinton. "I have a lot of hope for Hillary,” she said. "We need somebody with experience who can endure. And this woman has endured it all. Hillary is tough.”
The issue hits stands on Sept. 8. Full interview can be read on Latina.com
