Salma Hayek Is A Global Champion On 'Latina'

The mighty Mexicana takes on injustices happening around the world. 

Salma Hayek has gone from A-list actress to global humanitarian. After playing the iconic Frida, a headstrong Hayek turned to tackling the ills of the world. That means any and everything from educating sex workers in Nicaragua to vaccinating at risk populations in India to breastfeeding a Sierra Leone baby in dire need of nourishment, the latter having caused outrage across the world and influx of hate mail.

“It quite shocked me," recalled the 47-year-old in her cover story for Latina. "It was the only time in my life that I got hate letters.”

The telling interview went on to talk about a poignant racist encounter, her marriage to billionaire businessman Franc?ois-Henri Pinault, production work in Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet and Septembers of Shiraz, and support for Hillary Clinton. "I have a lot of hope for Hillary,” she said. "We need somebody with experience who can endure. And this woman has endured it all. Hillary is tough.”
