The Supergroup: Ocean's 7 (Jermaine Dupri, Usher, Trey Songz, Johnta Austin, Bryan-Michael Cox, Nelly and Tyrone Davis)
First Surfaced: In May 2009 when they released a mixtape, 3000 & 9 Shit
Why They'll Never Release An Album: We're still not 100 percent sure what the purpose of this supergroup was. (Wait, they were supposed to be a modern-day Rat Pack? Whatever.) All we know is that their mixtape came and went—and no one seemed to care all that much. The YouTube clips they unleashed were kinda funny, we guess, but ummm...No. Just no.

The Supergroup: T-Wayne (T-Pain & Lil Wayne)
First Surfaced: In June 2008 shortly after the success on "Can't Believe It"
Why They'll Never Release An Album: Because Autotune is dead! Seriously, does anyone still listen to "Can't Believe It" and think, You know what the world needs? Fourteen more tracks like this! Once upon a time, an album by these two would have worked. But that time is long gone.

The Supergroup: A Juelz Santana and Lil Wayne supergroup
First Surfaced: In 2006 when they announced they'd release an album called I Can't Feel My Face
Why They'll Never Release An Album: Label politics as usual. Putting out a project like this would require both artists cutting through a mountain of red tape. Expect journalists to ask Weezy and 'Elz about this for the next 10 years—and expect both of them to sound really excited about the possibility of it happening—but it'll never actually happen. Oh well, at least we got an I Can't Feel My Face mixtape out it, right?

The Supergroup: A supergroup consisting of Pharrell, T-Pain, Nelly and Akon
First Surfaced: October 2008
Why They'll Never Release An Album: It must have been a suuuuper slow news day when reports about this supergroup came out. It's like every artist who was already planning to be in a different supergroup got together and said, 'Yo, we should make a supergroup of supergroup All-Stars! Sounds good, right?' Um, wrong. The fact that this supergroup put out exactly zero songs together doesn't help their case, either. In fact, forget we even mentioned them. Next!

The Supergroup: The Dream Team (Diddy, Rick Ross, Fabolous, DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes, Red Cafe and Fat Joe)
First Surfaced: In early summer 2010 when Diddy assembled the supergroup
Why They'll Never Release An Album: Oh, Diddy. You really are the master marketer! The great thing about this "supergroup" is that we're not really even sure they're supposed to be a musical group. Diddy hasn't said anything about them recording together. They seem to just take pictures at parties and add new members when they feel like it (Diddy: "Yo, Fat Joe! You want in?!"). All of that said, you can expect this group to be a blip on the radar in the a year or two. No way they're putting out any music.

The Supergroup: P.O.C. (Pulled Over by the Cops) (Freddie Gibbs, Bun B and Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids)
First Surfaced: In July 2010 on "Oil Money" from Gibbs' Str8 Killa
Why They'll Never Release An Album: Bun B is too nice, isn't he? He seems like the type of guy who would agree to be in your supergroup just because. That has to be what happened here, because we can't honestly see these three teaming up to release an album. Chuck's had enough problems putting out another Cool Kids project and Freddie still hasn't put out a proper debut. That's why we're pulling over this idea and charging it without "Intent to Create a Fraudulent Rap Group." Sorry, guys.

The Supergroup: Center Edge Territory (Curren$y, Mos Def and Jay Electronica)
First Surfaced: In November 2009 after several studio sessions at Dame Dash's DD172 facility
Why They'll Never Release An Album: Curren$y is finally getting some mainstream love. Mos Def just signed to G.O.O.D. Music. And Jay Electronica has become the king of releasing no more than one song every three months. You think these three have the time to sit around and work as a collective unit? That whole idea is off-center. Belee dat!

The Supergroup: HBIC (Remy Ma, Shawnna and Jacki-O)
First Surfaced: In early 2007 after word leaked that they'd recorded several songs together
Why They'll Never Release An Album: Two words: Nicki Minaj. If you're a female rapper and your name isn't Nicki Minaj, good luck getting any play right now. Not to mention the fact that Remy's locked up, Shawnna is trying to convince T-Pain to put out something—anything!—that she's recorded and Jacki-O is...well, if you know where Jacki-O is, let us know!

The Supergroup: DPG-Unit (Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and members of the Dogg Pound and G-Unit)
First Surfaced: In 2003 when they (allegedly) recorded material together on the Rock The Mic tour
Why They'll Never Release An Album: To prove to you that supergroups don't work, we tracked down this example. Snoop, 50, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Daz and about a dozen other members from both camps swore up and down that they'd recorded a handful of songs on the Rock The Mic tour. So, ummmm....where the F are they?! If a group of guys that swears they've got songs together has failed to release even one of them, you know supergroups just aren't meant to be. A final word of advice to anyone in a supergroup: Don't quit your day job! We're just sayin'...
