Tens Of Thousands Flock To D.C. And New York To Protest Police Brutality

December 14, 2014 - 1:51 am by Iyana Robertson TWITTER

Today (Dec. 13) marked the gathering of the largest protests since the recent wave of demonstrations sparked by the deaths of Mike Brown, Eric Garner and Tamir Rice at the hands of police officers. In New York City, people flocked the streets of midtown and lower Manhattan for the “Millions March NYC” protest. With reports estimating the number of participants to be nearly 50,000, marchers also included Nas, Russell Simmons and Kevin Liles.

"We want people to shut down their cities for justice," “Millions March” organizers said in a statement. "We are continuing where the freedom fighters of the Civil Rights Movement left off. We are a new generation of young multi-racial activists willing to take up the torch, and we're not going to stand for this anymore."

In Washington D.C., another group of protesters gathered at the Freedom Plaza for the “Justice 4 All” march, led by Rev. Al Sharpton. With the families of Trayvon Martin, Garner and Akai Gurley – another slain New Yorker – another set of tens of thousands marched down to the U.S. Capitol.

“This is very overwhelming, I really appreciate everybody coming out and showing their support and I hope that we can get justice,” Eric Garner Jr. told MTV News. “People want their voices to be heard and [this is] how they’re gonna get justice and [have] their voices be heard.”
